TL;DR
Plumbing shops sell emergency work, and the shop with the emergency landing page eats the two in the morning call. This is the defect list agencies can prospect on, and the cold email that opens on the specific defect.
The plumbing customer is not comparing three shops on a Tuesday afternoon. The plumbing customer has a burst pipe on Sunday at eleven, and they call the first shop whose page says burst pipe, twenty four hours, and gives them a number that rings. Any agency selling marketing into plumbing is really selling that one page, and everything that leads a customer to it.
Who are the buyers this quarter?
The buyer is not the two person shop where the owner still runs every call. The buyer is the shop with four to fifteen trucks, a dispatcher, and a real problem when the phone goes quiet at night. That shop knows the emergency channel is where the margin lives.
- Residential plumbing shops with four to fifteen trucks and a dispatcher.
- Shops in a market that just took a hard freeze or a boil water advisory in the last thirty days.
- Shops with a GBP that has not been updated with a photo in six months.
The defect list to prospect on
| Defect | How to spot it | The pitch |
|---|---|---|
| No burst pipe emergency page | Site search for burst pipe, water heater emergency, 24 hour. If it returns nothing, the page is missing. | A single emergency landing page tuned for a freeze week, wired to the dispatcher's phone. |
| Review recency is stale | GBP profile. Newest review is over ninety days old. | A ninety day review program: post job follow up SMS, one click Google review link. |
| Service area pages missing | One contact page for a whole metro. No town level page. | A service area page for each of the ten towns the shop serves, each with a local review. |
| No scheduling widget | The only booking option on the site is a phone number. | A Housecall Pro, ServiceTitan, or Jobber scheduling widget on the homepage and the service pages. |
| Site loads slowly on mobile | Mobile PageSpeed under fifty on the homepage. | A speed pass on the top three pages. Sell it as calls captured on the two in the morning search. |

How do I open the email?
The opener is the page that should exist for the emergency the customer is Googling. Everything else is background noise.
Template
Subject: burst pipe page on {shop} Hi {first name}, we had a hard freeze last week in {city}. I searched your site for burst pipe and nothing came back. {competitor} has a page for it and is ranking first on Google for {emergency keyword}. I build these pages for plumbing shops on a two week turnaround. Want the competitor page and a mockup for {shop}? {sig}
The subject is the page. The body is the event, the competitor, and the keyword. The ask is a document. That is the whole email. If your email is longer than this, cut everything that is not a fact about the shop.
What actually earns the reply
- A weather event with a date, not a season. Freeze week of February third, not just winter.
- A competitor name and a competitor page screenshot in the follow up.
- A follow up that sends at 6am the morning after the next freeze forecast.
What price does the shop pay?
The retainer holds because the emergency page pays for itself on one after hours call a week. That math the dispatcher already knows, so the sell is short. Show the missing page, name the after hours call, name the retainer, and the shop signs.
How do I find the weather event?
The NOAA local office posts hazardous weather events by county. Filter the last thirty days for freeze warnings or storm advisories. That is your list of markets.
Is a scheduling widget worth pitching?
Yes. Housecall Pro, Jobber, and ServiceTitan all publish a widget. The install is a two hour job and adds a booking channel the shop did not have.
Do plumbing shops read cold email?
The dispatcher does not. The owner does, at six in the morning before the dispatcher takes over the inbox. Send then.
The emergency page is the product
Every plumbing marketing retainer that lasts more than a quarter is really a subscription to keep the emergency page and the review flow current. Sell that. Not SEO in the abstract.
